What is Massachusetts Car-Free Week?

Massachusetts Car-Free Week is an extension of World Car-Free Day, an annual event which has quickly spread to over 1,000 cities in 40 countries around the globe. Endorsing the environmental financial, community and health benefits of green sustainable travel options, Massachusetts Car-Free Week promotes transit, carpooling, bicycling, walking and teleworking as greener modes of transportation.

This year, Massachusetts will celebrate a week of going Car-Free or Car-Light, with activities and events happening September 17th - 23rd.

Get Involved!

Participating in Car-Free Week is FREE and it's easy! Travel Car-Free as many days as you can from September 17th - 23rd and track your green trips. Participants of Car-Free Week will be eligible to win a $50 Amazon gift card daily - drawn from the names of those who logged a trip the previous day and will also be entered for a chance to win one of three $150 Visa gift card grand prizes from the names of all participants! The more days you track, the greater your chance to win!

Winning participants will be announced on Twitter. Follow #CarFreeWk for more information about Car-Free Week events in your community

Not able to travel completely Car-Free? We encourage you to try traveling Car-Light this year. Carpooling or vanpooling with friends, co-workers or family is a great way to reduce CO2 emissions.
